College Senior Chosen for 2022 Chuck Pezzano Scholarship

Zachary Budd of Simpsonville, Kentucky, a member of the Campbellsville University bowling team, has been selected as the 2022 winner of the International Bowling Media Association’s Chuck Pezzano Media Scholarship.  The 23-year-old fifth-year senior, who is scheduled to graduate in the spring, will receive a $2,500 scholarship and a one-year membership to the IBMA.  Budd is double majoring in mass communications with a digital broadcasting and political science focus and minoring in music. He has maintained a 3.68 grade point average and has been on the Dean’s List almost every semester.

“I’m grateful for it,” Budd said about receiving the Pezzano Scholarship. “It was the perfect time for me. I was pretty ecstatic about it all as I have been putting in a lot of effort on the social media at my school.”

Besides competing on the school’s bowling team, he has served as its social media manager since last December, posting tournament results, interviews and photos to Instagram, Facebook and his personal YouTube channel plus the school’s website. Among his goals is to make the bowling team more well-known to the private Christian school’s 2,000-plus students and beyond. He also works part-time at Wolfe’s Bowling Supply Pro Shop in Louisville.

Budd’s other interests include music. He plays the organ and also is the principal cellist in the Campbellsville University Orchestra.  He hopes to coach bowling someday and bring the sport to his alma mater, Martha Layne Collins High School in Shelbyville, Kentucky.

The scholarship, presented by the Billiard and Bowling Institute of America, is named in memory of IBMA, United States Bowling Congress and Professional Bowlers Association hall of fame journalist Chuck Pezzano. It is awarded to students attending college or graduating high school seniors planning to attend college.
